User Experience (UX) Designer

We are looking for a talented designer with 2-3 years of experience to join our team for a 12-month contract role.  This role involves the design and development of the user experience for the web and mobile components of the Straker Translations RAY translation platform.

The role involves collaborating closely with the business, product and technology teams to develop a vision for web and mobile interfaces for external and internal customers.   You would then turn your vision into reality by developing and implementing the approved design by using innovative, smart approaches to a wide variety of user experience challenges.

It will be essential for you to work with our existing UX experience of our platform and implement a consistent approach and design across all applications.


– Design of interaction models for web and mobile

– Collaborate in an agile team to design web apps

– Create prototypes

– Implement web and mobile technical design using state-of-the-art tools and technologies

– Leveraging user data, analytics and business requirements, develop product requirements and user stories

– Present design work to the business, product and technology and executive teams

Skills and Experience

– Two to three years as user experience or interaction designer, or similar role.  Experience in design for online platforms.

– A start-up mindset and the ability to work in an agile environment

– Proficient with standard design tools such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks, Dreamweaver and popular web frameworks such as Angular.js, and jQuery

– A portfolio of work demonstrating experience in creating human-centred design solutions and showcasing the ability to turn ideas into a compelling, creative vision

– Experience in designing web interfaces

– Excellent communication, presentation and storytelling skills

– Conversant in best practices for web-based information architecture and design

This role can be based at our Auckland office located on the North Shore, or our office in sunny Gisborne.
